Message From The Principal

On behalf of the staff and students of Machakos Teachers College, to welcome you all to the 59th graduation ceremony. Today marks yet another milestone in the history of Machakos Teachers College as we witness the colourful graduation of 469 students.

I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate the graduands for having successfully completed yet another phase of their academic journey. As you mark this significant milestone in your academic career, I believe this symbolizes the completion of a well laid foundation that will enable you to serve society competently. Machakos Teachers College is committed to impact quality education and training, inculcated in competences, values and expertise. It is my hope that the graduands we are releasing today to the world of work will use the knowledge and skills gained to provide creative and innovative ways of not only addressing educational challenges but also social, spiritual, cultural, economic and political challenges in our dynamic society.

As we celebrate the 59th graduation ceremony, we take cognizance of the role played by the parents/guardians, sponsors and other stakeholders in ensuring that students completed their course successfully. I single out our committed Board of Management, lecturers and members of non-teaching staff who have individually and collectively ensured that the graduands successfully completed their studies in record time and to make this ceremony a success. The devotion to duty exhibited by the staff is impressive. I urge them to maintain this tempo. In line with this year’s graduation theme “Transforming Education through Relevant Teacher Training”, the College has equipped the graduands with basic skills in Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) which I believe will enable them handle the new Curriculum.

The Board of Management remains indebted to the entire staff for their devotion to the college’s success as demonstrated by:

  1. Attainment of a mean score of 4.38 in 2019 PTE results with an improvement index of +0.26.
  2. Very good performance in co-curricular activities in the year 2019.
  3. Development of basis for continuous Performance improvement as envisaged in our Performance Contract for the period 1st July 2019-30th June 2020.
  4. Achievement of a good composite score of 3.09 in the evaluation of Performance Contract (PC) for FY 2018/2019.
  5. Implementing, maintaining and continually improving a quality management system based on ISO 9001:2015 International Standards.

Special thanks go to the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education for its continued support through provision of financial grants which have enabled the college to execute its mandate. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the Teachers Service Commission for continued support in provision of adequate teaching staff who have been instrumental in the implementation of our core mandate.

The establishment of Machakos Teachers College brings together students and staff from all parts of the country with different cultures and this enriches our performance in co-curricular activities and especially in Drama and Music. I applaud our students for maintaining peace and high sense of harmony despite their diverse backgrounds. The peaceful co-existence among our students is a clear demonstration of the way humankind should live on earth.

The core values that guide the college’s activities are professionalism, transparency and accountability, team work, dignity, fairness, courtesy, respect and integrity. By observing these values the college has progressed towards building a prosperous teaching force that is committed to the ethics and values of the teaching profession.

To our graduands, congratulations once more and thank you for offering us the privilege to make Machakos TTC part of your life. Your success is our success and pride. As a MATECO Alumni, we look forward to watching your story unfold as you empower the Kenyan child through quality teaching and God will bless you mightily.
